July 4th
After being annoyed all day by military flyovers every 20 minutes for several hours, we walked down the street to catch a glimpse of the 'biggest fireworks display in the world' (851,000 fireworks). Our normal fireworks viewing spot on the National Mall was behind a security perimeter for a presidential speech and for the 'Great American State Fair'. We found a spot south of Dupont Circle to watch the show. It was late Saturday evening so the area was packed with rowdy young people heading to the bars and clubs.
Rob and Bill watch the fireworks from Henry Wadsworth Longfellow Statue at the corner of 18th and M Streets NW.
Our view was looking down 18th street. The building with the glowing antennas on the right was Bill's first office with ALA.
Pow! The fireworks kicked off just after midnight
